High-fidelity performance mapping of an electrically-excited synchronous motor with continuous wave windings

PRESENTER:
Cleef Thackwell

EXPERTISE:
Electromagnetics

Software:
JMAG

In order to accurately predict the energy consumption of electrically-excited synchronous motors (EESM) for automotive applications, a fine resolution sweep of id,iq and if is required to generate the dataset used to find the optimum control set-point. PWM-effects on copper and iron losses must also be considered, especially at low-load operation. A time-efficient method is presented that enables the calculation of EESM maps in a short timeframe, with a high degree of accuracy.
