Demagnetization analysis is essential for assessing and enhancing the reliability and electromagnetic performance of permanent magnet (PM) electric motors. It focuses on how partial or irreversible magnet flux loss—induced by elevated temperature, armature reaction, mechanical loading, or fault conditions—alters the motor’s magnetic field and operating capability.
Demagnetization analysis uses analytical models and FEA to predict magnet working points, critical operating conditions, and post demagnetization performance curves (torque–speed, efficiency, losses). These studies inform magnet grade and thickness, rotor topology (e.g., V shape vs single layer IPM), and control strategies so that the machine meets torque, NVH, and lifetime efficiency targets even in the presence of realistic partial demagnetization over time.
